Grandmaster Alex Yermolinsky is an American chess player and coach who was born on April 11, 1958, in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg), Russia. He began playing chess at the age of six and soon became a top junior player in the Soviet Union. In 1985, he immigrated to the United States and became a naturalized citizen in 1990. Yermolinsky has represented the US in international competitions and has won numerous national and international chess tournaments. He is known for his aggressive and tactical style of play.
In addition to his successful playing career, Yermolinsky is also a highly regarded chess coach and author. He has coached some of the top players, and has written several instructional chess books. Yermolinsky is a popular commentator and analyst for chess events, and his insightful and entertaining analysis has made him a beloved figure in the chess world. He was awarded the title of Grandmaster in 1992 and was inducted into the US Chess Hall of Fame in 2012.
