Richard Leyva Proenza

Richard Leyva Proenza is an International Master from Cuba (peak rating 2379) currently residing in Venezuela. He started playing at the age of 14 and has been national champion in multiple categories.

IM Richard started coaching in 1990 while he was still an active player. GM Renier Vasquez Igarza, GM Isan Ortiz Suarez, GM Camilo Gomez Garrido, IM Roberto Carlos Gomez Ledo and MF Ramon Lorente Pupo are some leading players with whom he has worked extensively. He is currently coaching the 12-year-old Spanish FM Viviana Galvan Cipriani as well as the Venezuelan CM Rafael Corado amongst others.

Richard has a degree in Physical Education and Sports and has several publications in collaboration with Chess Informant, a leading chess publisher.
