Mikhail Moiseyevich Botvinnik, born on August 17, 1911, was a prominent Soviet and Russian chess grandmaster who held the title of the sixth World Chess Champion. In addition to his chess career, he made significant contributions to the fields of electrical engineering and computer science and played a pioneering role in computer chess. Botvinnik was a key figure in the development of chess within the Soviet Union, and he played a vital role in shaping the World Chess Championship system after World War II. His influence extended to coaching, as he mentored future World Champions Anatoly Karpov, Garry Kasparov, and Vladimir Kramnik. He passed away on May 5, 1995.
